What inspired this collection

“Love in every universe” has always enchanted me, the idea that no matter the world, two souls can always find their way back to each other. Lovers Lane grew from that thought, as I imagined little forest critters going on tender dates among flowers and trees.

This series was such a joy to create that it even led me to paint my very first zine!

The flowers in this collection were chosen with care (roses, bleeding hearts, forget-me-nots, and tulips)each carrying a symbolic thread of devotion, remembrance, or blooming affection.

Another thread of inspiration came from red ribbons. In Chinese folklore, the Red Thread of Fate ties destined lovers together. My partner and I, without knowing its meaning at first, wore red ribbon bracelets from the very start of our relationship. Later I discovered the symbolism, and it felt like the universe had been weaving us together all along.

What is in this Collection?

The Lovers Lane collection is made up of very small watercolour prints and a watercolour zine, tied up with a red ribbon. Each piece is inspired by love and how love is seen in nature. Perfect for adding colour to your junk journals and as a lil memento to your love.

Inside this collection, you'll find:

  • Three small prints of rose, bleeding hearts, and forget-me-nots. These are perfect for Junk Journals.

  • Two square prints with frogs and cats on little dates, tied up in a little bow.

  • The zine has many scenes like the lil lady bugs! It is tied with a ribbon and comes with a zine exclusive sticker!

  • And a little sparkly watercolour sticker

This collection includes some of my personal favourite watercolour pieces, which pair beautifully with my other collections like Spring Buds or Flutters Garden if you love pink florals or love stories in nature. Everything is painted by my hands, printed on textured paper, and packaged with love in my pink studio.

I loved painting only pink flowers/ pink adjacent flowers. I also found it really fun weaving in the ribbons in the stems and flowers. I also enjoyed mixing my media with the ribbons and adding stickers to my zines.

I originally add sparkles to my paintings. The prints however, wont have the same sparkles (my printer is FANCY but he isn't magic sadly). However, the square prints will have lil ribbons and the watercolour zine will be bound in red ribbon!

If you’re a lover of watercolour art and soft surprises, you might also enjoy Bellis Clubs, my monthly subscription where I send out exclusive treats and new art like this straight to your door.

Botanical Journal Dust

These small little prints are perfect for journals and diaries. These make each journal spread into mini illuminated manuscripts. You can buy little packs of these to add a little magic to your diaries. They are also small enough to add some botanical whimsy to phone cases.

Each new collection explores a new theme. This collection took a hold of my imagination and I got a chance to mix digital art and my watercolour. (See below) Is one of my Zine scenes that I turned into a little gif.

The Collection Process

This was my second collection and at the time I thought I could paint one a month (yeah… I was very wrong, oops). The zine took forever.

From sketching the A3 piece to making all the knots overlap and weave together. If you ever unfold it, you’ll see all the little Celtic knots and spirals linking into one big scene.

I hadn’t really drawn scenes like this before. Up until then I mostly stuck to flower paintings. But this collection was the first time I tried mixing flowers with a proper “background.”

If you know my later pieces, Lovers Lane was the start of me playing with illuminated manuscript vibes. Except I put my own spin on it with pastels, whimsy and softness.

I had just switched jobs and moved to the countryside, so I gave myself a month to paint my house pink and finish this collection. Honestly it took the whole month just to paint the zine. But I fell in love with it. It feels like a foldable little world where I can imagine myself and my partner living.

The Whole Collection:

I love looking at my collections as a whole. There’s something about seeing all the pieces together that makes me feel like I’m walking through a little painted garden. I keep a small easel on my desk, and I use it to hold up whatever collection I’m working on while I paint. Every morning the sunlight hits it just right, and it makes the watercolours glow. It almost feels like the flowers are alive, just for a second.

I also have a folder where I tuck away all of my past collections, like my own little library of gardens. Each collection feels like a chapter of my life, soft watercolour memories that carry different moods and seasons. Flutter Garden feels light and playful, Lovers Lane leans romantic and dreamy, and Spring Buds has this fresh new energy. When I look through the folder, I see how my art has grown and changed, and it makes me excited to keep painting more.

I know not everyone gets to live surrounded by wildflowers or trees, so I want my collections to feel like a gentle escape. A way to bring a little bit of colour, whimsy, and nature into your everyday life.

At the end of Lovers Lane

I hope you’ve liked wandering through my second little garden. When I finished this collection, I stuck all the pieces up on my wall like a tiny gallery, so I could see the whole story at once.

Down below you’ll find my diary entry. Maybe these paintings will help your mind rest for a moment, or even invite you to dream in colours and knots, the way I did while painting them.

Love,
Laura
