Old English gardens that have been reclaimed by nature after a few years of neglect. I also painted antique and rusted keys and locks hidden by ivy leaves.
I wanted to paint flowers that have secretive symbolism and also flowers that thrive in forgotten gardens. Ivy, morning glory and mallows, your traditional cottage garden flowers delicately painted in watercolour.
The Gate to the Grotto piece has doors that open to a forgotten statue hiding under dappled light. I enjoyed painting a piece that is almost alive and opens to a secret garden.
